When Tragedy Strikes

“I just want to forget what happened!” She stared at me with fire in her eyes. Her voice just below a scream.

For those who have suffered some form of trauma, abuse, loss of a loved one, especially in a violent way, or who have been through a major crisis, avoiding the issue will be a common response. Why? To avoid the pain that comes with remembering. But we will never forget it. The brain forgets nothing.

To avoid is to give it life and control over to the painful past. To confront is to heal, but it will be difficult. Freedom will comes to those who dare to endure the pain of healing. To avoid means to continue to exist, dragging the past along.
